Symptom

You want to retrieve your mailbox with a Samsung Android smartphone. You want to use the smartphone's default mail app.

Solution

Basically, you can use any mail app on any smartphone with exactly the same access data as you use for your ordinary mail client (such as Thunderbird, Outlook). Bitpalace has tested many apps. All common mail apps will work with your Bitpalace mail account. Almost all problems with the use of e-mail are caused by incorrect access data, a wrong host name or an incorrect encryption. Therefore, make sure to enter the correct data very carefully.

1. Start the mail app.

2. Select "Manual Setup" and enter your e-mail address. The e-mail address is also your login name in your mailbox.

3. Enter the password of this mailbox. Touch “Next”.

4. The app asks you which protocol you want to use. At least "POP3" and "IMAP" are available. It usually makes sense to choose IMAP on a smartphone. Tap on "IMAP".

You will now be taken to the configuration of the incoming mail server.

5. On the following page of the app the field "E-Mail address" is pre-filled. The “Username” field is pre-filled with the part of the email address before the @ sign. Fill in your entire e-mail address there. Your e-mail address will then appear twice in different fields in the configuration. That is alright.

6. In the “IMAP Server” field, enter the host name. The host name is not your domain name, but the name of the host computer hosting your website and the mail server. The hostname is structured like ".bitpalast.net". The exact host name can be found in the server welcome mail that you received at the beginning of the contract. Do not add anything (for example, do not paste. imap or mail. to the beginning), do not leave anything out.

7. In the “Security Type” drop-down box, select “TLS (Accept All Certificates)”.

8. The port number is 143.

9. In the field "IMAP path prefix" enter: INBOX

10. Touch “Next”.

You will now be taken to the configuration of the outgoing mail server.

11. In the "SMTP server" field, enter the host name. Enter exactly the same host name you used in step (6.). Do not add anything, do not leave anything out.

12. In the “Security Type” drop-down box, select “TLS (Accept All Certificates)”.

13. The port number is 25.

14. The field "Login required" must be checked.

15. The fields "User name" and "Password" are pre-filled with the previously entered values (e-mail address and password). If not, please fill in your e-mail address and password again.

16. Tap on "Next".

On the following page, you can select additional settings for your e-mail account, e.g. whether you want to be notified when new e-mail arrives. The settings on this page do not affect whether or not you can access the mailbox. These are merely additional comfort settings that you can freely set. If you are not sure, leave the default values.

17. Tap on "Next".

The mail app confirms that your account is ready. In order to make existing mail that has already been stored in the mailbox visible, you may need to tap on "Load mail" in the mail account after the new setup.
